ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Physician's Free Dental Clinic is a walk-in clinic that addresses the dental care needs of the uninsured and underserved populations of Franklin County on Monday evenings, four times a month, at the Columbus Public Health Building.

In collaboration with the Columbus Dental Society, the Central Ohio Hospital Council, Columbus Neighborhood Health Centers, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Columbus State Community College of Dental Hygiene, Affordable Dentures, and Columbus Public Health, we have developed a volunteer dental network providing a variety of charitable dental services. These services include, regular dental hygiene clinics provided by OSU and CSCC Dental Hygiene students, single tooth extractions to full dental extractions, cleanings, restorations including fillings, and free dentures for low income and uninsured residents in Franklin County.

BENEFITS

Since inception in 2012, Physicians CareConnection has served roughly 20 patients every Monday night the clinic is open, amounting to well over 1,000 dental patient visits. Charity services provided are estimated at $270,000 per year, which includes the cost of x-rays, the exam, extraction(s), and pharmaceuticals. In addition, in 2016 over 68 full extractions and sets of dentures were distributed to patients in critical need. Patients who received dentures were able to live fuller and happier lives, doing things from attending job interviews with newfound confidence to attending weddings and gatherings without feeling self-conscious. Patients who have received our extraction and restoration services are now pain free and routinely express extreme gratitude. With the expansion of our clinic from 2 to 4 nights a month, we have been able to nearly double the amount of patients we can see. Despite a lack of advertisement, our clinic has been filled nearly every Monday simply from word of mouth, demonstrating the great need in the community for continued services.
